The Heritage Route

One of the best ways to re-live the Rockhampton of yesteryear is to discover it via the Heritage Route. The route takes in the grand old architecture, lovingly preserved or restored, which graces many areas of Rockhampton.

Quay Street and The Fitzroy River Pilbeam Theatre

The Pilbeam Theatre is the hub of Central Queensland’s performing arts. The Theatre attracts some of the best national and international acts. Meet for drinks of have dinner before the performance at the Theatre’s on-site restaurant and bar.

South Rockhampton Botanic Gardens and Zoo

Rockhampton's Botanic Gardens is regarded as one of the best in regional Australia. Excellent specimens of palms, cycads and ferns are found throughout the beautifully manicured grounds. Some specimens are over 100 years old.

Koorana Crocodile Farm

Koorana Crocodile Farm is a commercially operated crocodile farm and restaurant. Fully guided tours are operated daily at 10.00am and 1.00pm with crocodile hatchings being seen from March to May.

Kershaw Gardens

Located just on the north side of the Neville Hewitt Bridge over the Fitzroy River, these relatively new gardens (opened 1988) offer a great day for the whole family. The Kershaw Gardens focus is on a natural Australian bushland with many walking tracks to get a first hand view of everything. The main feature would probably be the large waterfall situated next to the Bruce Highway that is clearly visible when driving by.

Mount Archer National Park

Mount Archer National Park protects bushland remnants in the Berserker Ranges, a scenic backdrop to Rockhampton. At 604m above sea level, Mount Archer is the highest peak and provides spectacular views of the city and the surrounding ranges.

Mount Morgan

Mt Morgan is an integral part of our region's history as it was mined for nearly 100 years.
Mount Archer National Park. The Mount Archer National Park features spectacular views of Rockhampton city, deeply incised valleys, dry rainforests, fleeting glimpses of forest inhabitants and feasting cockatoos.

Capricorn Caves

The spectacular Capricorn Caves are a unique system of above-ground caves in a limestone ridge situated 23km north of Rockhampton.

Capricorn Reef Diving

Scuba diving and snorkelling. Diving available depending on weather and by request.

Heritage Village

The Rockhampton Heritage Village is an active township museum where visitors can experience the rich and colourful history of the Rockhampton District.

Rockhampton Art Gallery

The Rockhampton Art Gallery Collection features major paintings by Australian artists with a focus on the 1940’s to 1970’s. The Gallery also presents an exciting program of exhibitions and events including touring exhibitions, history, photography, ceramics, film, music, poetry, workshops and indigenous art. Children are invited to explore activities and create artwork in their very own Kids Art Space.

The Region

Rockhampton is situated on Queensland's largest river, the Fitzroy, and lies 40 kilometres inland from the beautiful Capricorn Coast beaches. The City is surrounded by the Berserker Ranges and Mount Archer (607 metres high), posing an impressive backdrop for the vibrant City centre, business districts and residential areas.
