The Obelisk

The Obelisk was erected on Cape Dombey in 1852, it was used to navigate entrance to Guichen Bay and to store rocket lifesaving equipment. The firing of rockets, carrying baskets to distressed ships to bring passengers ashore, saved many lives. It later assisted passing ships with navigation because its height of 40ft (12m) makes it visible 12 miles (20km) out to sea.

The Old Gaol

The gaol held prisoners from 1860 to 1881. After several escapes, the outer walls were reinforced with steel boiler plates from the shipwrecked Admella. A crumbling ruin until 1995, the gaol's walls are now restored and great to explore.

Wilson's Gallery

The gallery established for 23 years is dedicated to exhibiting the finest works of national, regional and emerging artists and crafts people.

The Butler Boat Haven

The Lake Butler Boat Haven was an inland lake until 1964 when a channel was cut to connect it to the open sea and make a safe harbor for the local fishing fleet.

Lake Fellomongery

This is a large fresh water lake in the main road as you enter the Robe Township. It was given its industrial sounding name in 1853 when a fellmongery was established there to wash wool which was salvaged from a wrecked ship in Guinchen Bay.

Beacon Hill Lookout Tower

Customs House

Customs House was established soon after Robe was declared a port in 1847. Henry Dudley Melville became the first customs officer in 1855, and was also "Receiver of Wrecks" and "Harbourmaster of South Eastern Ports". He wrote several exciting accounts of shipwrecks, smuggling and immigrants of his day. This particular building was erected in c1863. The National Museum, a feature, is open 2-4pm on Tuesday and Saturday and daily in January.

Wineries

Spend a day visiting the exciting and well respected Mount Benson Region, with over a dozen wineries, six of which are open for cellar door sales, it is an excellent way to experience some of our coastal produce.

Long Beach

Long Beach, a beautiful white sand beach, is about 17km long, and when the sand is firm can be driven on by vehicle.

Little Dip Conservation Park

Little Dip Sanctuary is located on the southern edge of the town with an attractive mix of rugged coast line, rocky headlands and secluded beaches.
